 NOTICE OF RACE and SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

 1. Rules
The regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing 2005-2008, (hereafter referred to as RRS), the prescriptions of the United States Sailing Association, and by these Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions.

2. Entry
Eligible skippers shall register by Sailing by the race committee boat (“GRIF”) in the Alamitos Bay Turning Basin before the start of the first race. Advance registration will be accepted and greatly appreciated at raceoffice@lbyc.org or 562-598-9401 with Rick Roberts. A cash only entry fee of $5.00 is required before start of the first race, and is preferred to be paid in advance at the LBYC race office, but will also be accepted on the water.

3. Notices to Competitors
Notices to competitors will be hailed on the water following repeated sounds.

4. Schedule of Races

Race committee will attempt to sail as many races as possible.

5. Racing Area and Marks
The racing area will be in the Alamitos Bay Turning Basin. The marks will be LBYC “pins” with an Orange LBYC flag over a White LBYC flag. The Leeward mark will be the pin end of the starting line. In the event of a course sailed containing gates, the “Grif” will serve as L/p (port leeward gate).

6. The Course
6.1 Courses will be hailed in accordance with Appendix Q of the RRS.
6.2 All windward marks shall be rounded to port.
6.3 Courses will be selected from the following:

7. The Start
7.1 Starts will be run in accordance of Appendix Q of the RRS, which is:

            Ten seconds                                          One short sound                      

            Five through one seconds                      Five short sounds

            START                                                  One long sound                                     START 

7.2        The starting line will be between a staff displaying an orange flag on the race committee boat at the starboard end and       a pin buoy displaying orange and white flags at the port end.

8. Recalls
Individual recalls will be handled in accordance with Appendix Q of RRS.
General recalls will be signaled by repeated whistle blasts immediately following the start. A new sequence will begin approximately one minute later.

9. The Finish
The finish line will be between a staff displaying an orange flag on the race committee boat and pin displaying orange and white flags at the other end.

10. Penalties
A boat infringing a rule of Part 2 of RRS shall exonerate itself by completing a 360° degree turn, including one tack and one gybe. 

11. Protests
Protests are discouraged. This is a fun, low-key event, please let us keep it as that!

12. Scoring
Low-point scoring, Appendix A, Low Point System, will be used. All completed races will count.

13. Trophies
Trophies will be announced and handed out on the water after finish of last race to places First, Second, & Third.
