Teen Leadership Development

Ages 12 - 17 years old | Time: Varies | Tuesday - Friday
The Leadership Program is guided volunteer work experience for members 12 to 17 years old through summer, fall, and winter. This program is designed to assist in the development of our young member’s leadership skills through providing service and assisting the coaches with the campers. All of our leaders are under the care and supervision of our coaches during the time of their scheduled shift.

All Leadership candidates must interview with our Activities Director Bri Vi May 7th-10th from 1-4pm and provide her with their availability for the upcoming summer. During this interview, it is the time for candidates to share any questions and/or concerns involving the program and their schedule. Although the activities director has most contact with parents at the club, it is highly encouraged for the leadership candidates to contact the activities director in regard to the program and scheduling interviews.

Important Dates: Leadership Development registration opens March 1st, applications are due April 30th,interviews will take place May 7th-17th from 1:00-4:00pm, and orientation will be June 7th at 4:00pm.

Schedule: There is no minimum of days in order to participate in the program; however, the dates of work must be pre-determined and fulfilled as scheduled through the summer, fall, and winter months.

Hours: The summer hours of service will run Tuesday through Friday varying from 9:00am-3:30pm and roll into the fall and winter events and activities as assigned by Bri Vi. Volunteer work consists of assisting Camp Corinthian and/or Swim Coaches with activities as well as administrative duties such as preparing arts and crafts, bathroom runs, food distribution, set up and take down of special events or activities, and participating in the activities.

Community Service Hours: In order for Leadership hours to be considered community service hours, the leaders must provide the activities director with the documents needed at the beginning of the volunteer session. A minimum of 15 hours will be required to be considered community service from the Long Beach Yacht Club.

Attire: All leaders will receive a T-Shirt that is required to be worn during their shift at camp. We do recommend that our leaders wear comfortable pants/shorts and closed toed shoes. Hats and sunglasses are allowed as well.

Group Swim (60 Minute Lessons)

All levels of swim team focus on three main objectives: 1) stroke technique 2) endurance and speed 3) team work and sportsmanship. Group swim lessons provide our swimmers with diverse training such as bay and beach workouts. Other than improving swimming technique, our program emphasizes the importance of self-awareness, social skills, and how to work amongst peers. *Information on swim meets will be available in early June. To purchase swim suits, speedos, and swim bags, please go to www.casswimshop.com, select team gear, and choose Long Beach Yacht Club.

Private Swim Lessons (20 Minute Lessons)

8:00am - 12:00pm | Tuesday - Friday
Swim lessons at the LBYC are a great first step for tiny tots ages 2 and above. With the littlest folks, ages 2 & 3, we work on water safety techniques such as rolling on their back to get their breath and getting to the wall. Once that's established, we begin with the basics of freestyle and backstroke. For our kids 4-8, we work intently on stroke techniques in the four competitive swim strokes: back stroke, breast stroke, freestyle, and butterfly. Depending on the swimmer’s level, coaches may emphasize on techniquessuch as starts, turns, and endurance. With kids 9 and older, we evaluate and improve their stroke techniques water balance, starts, turns, and stroke tempo. By building proper stroke habits now, the kids (and their families) set themselves up for success this season and far into the future. It is our goal to have the kids of all ages swimming as efficiently and as fast as they can go!

“Please indicate what time you would like your child to be enrolled in the program, Bri Vi will contact you shortly to confirm the availability.”
