ABOUT THIS EVENT
The Linda Elias Memorial Women’s One Design Challenge is considered the premier all-women yacht race on the west Coast. Ten women’s racing teams compete on identical Catalina 37’s - the same purpose-built one-design boats raced in Congressional Cup competition each year.
The inaugural Women’s One-Design Challenge was held in 1991. The event is a two-day racing event that was first conceived and organized by the Long Beach Women's Sailing Association as an opportunity for women to compete on the Catalina 37s. Its mission is to raise funds and awareness of women's achievements on the water.
Linda Elias - the namesake for the current regatta - won the challenge three of the first five years. Elias passed away in 2003, and the Long Beach/Los Angeles Women’s Sailing Association rededicated the event in her memory.
